Titanfall: Respawn Introduces the Black Market

The Black Market  (Insert from Titanfall.com)

The Frontier may be rich in resources, but it’s also rich with conflict. As a Pilot, you want to be prepared for anything, and sometimes, standard issue just isn’t enough to get the job done. Sometimes, you need to look elsewhere for an edge. Welcome to the seedy underbelly of the Frontier, Pilot – The Black Market.

The Black Market collects and sells the Frontier’s most sordid items like packs of random Burn Cards and Titan Insignias. Don’t ask where we got them. You don’t want to know.

Respawn announced today that players will be able to purchase burn cards and titan insignias with in-game currency (credits) at the Black Market, a new store that will be added via an update sometime soon. Credits can be earned from match victories, match completions, a player’s first victory of the day, completing daily challenges, and by selling burn cards. Additionally, once a player reaches level 50, part of their experienced earned will be converted to credits, a great feature for 10th Gen players!

Game Designer, David Shaver, went on to assure players that the Black Market is not in any way an attempt to announce microtransactions. The Black Market is actually a very unique way to not only add more reward to Titanfall, but it also engages a spark of story to the booming FPS. The Black Market was previously mentioned in the description of the map, Smuggler’s Cove, so it’s great to see Respawn build on that. Skylanders Trap Team: Dark Edition – What’s Inside

Activision debuted the Skylanders Trap Team Dark Edition at the San Diego Comic Con this week, and the exclusive black and silver variant characters bundled with the Dark Edition look absolutely stunning. But the characters aren’t the only thing to look forward to with this year’s Dark Edition – The Ultimate Kaos Trap comes bundled as well. This year, Skylanders is all about trapping and playing as villains, so it’s a real treat to have the opportunity of trapping Kaos with this exclusive trap. There will be a standard Kaos Trap hitting retail in limited quantities, but the Ultimate Kaos Trap is much larger than the standard retail trap.

Guardians of the Galaxy: The Universal Weapon Releases Today

Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy makes its video game debut today with Guardians of the Galaxy: The Universal Weapon. The Universal Weapon is available for $4.99 on iOS, Android and Windows Phone devices, and features six intergalactic worlds with over 60 levels to explore, as  well as an Arena mode and Battle mode – Battle mode is the story-driven mode, and contains the bulk of the game. Players start off with none other than Peter Quill, the infamous Star Lord.

The Universal Weapon draws most of its story from the comic book side of Guardians, but ultimately still holds its own “parallel time frame”. Here’s what producer, Aaron Norstad said via Polygon.

“We started the game before we knew anything about the film, other than the release date,” Norstad told Polygon. “We knew from the beginning that although we were going to strategically plan to launch the same time as the film, we knew that we didn’t want to be the game that was the same storyline as the film.”

“We wanted it to be deep gameplay with a lot of characters,” Norstad said. “Certainly the universe is so rich in terms of the characters to draw upon, but we knew the core gameplay had to be about five guardians first and foremost.”

“One of the things we really doubled down with was the variety and the depth of characters in terms of the skills and abilities they have, but then also in terms of the broad variety of characters,” Norstad said.

Guardians of the Galaxy: The Universal Weapon released today for iOS, Android and Windows phone, for $4.99.

Charting a Course: Developing the Next Mass Effect – SDCC Panel 2014

San Diego’s Comic Con 2014 is just around the corner, and many panels have been earning their confirmation over the last couple of weeks. BioWare has announced their Mass Effect 4 Panel, Charting a Course: Developing the Next Mass Effect. BioWare’s panel is going to discuss the making of this next Mass Effect, and hopefully give us plenty of new information on the next installment of this blockbuster franchise.

Still Shot from EA Press Conference: E3 2014 (Mass Effect)

Other than the original reveal, N7 Day concept art, and the short teaser from EA’s E3 2014 Press Conference, not much has been revealed about Mass Effect 4, but some details have been confirmed. We know that Commander Shepard will not be the star or primary role and that the game is going to share many “core features” of Dragon Age Inquisition. This most likely refers to “under-the-hood” development that won’t reflect the game’s combat, HUD, dialogue, etc. Lastly, the developers have stated that ME4 is going to take place in whole new area of Space, so it would be great to learn more on that.

SDCC 2014 runs July 24-27, so in just a few more weeks we should a lot more about the next Mass Effect. We will follow up on this article at that time, so enjoy the Con and check back often for everything Mass Effect, right here at DS90’s!

GameStop is Getting Involved with Early Game Development

GameStop is taking new steps to stay ahead in the video games industry, and their newest plans will undoubtedly produce some very interesting results. GameStop confirmed to VentureBeat that they are now getting involved with early game development to produce deeper exclusive content for players who make their purchases through GameStop. Their goal is to produce not only deeper exclusive content, but to also produce exclusive gameplay that can only be played and accessed through pre-ordering or purchasing video games and associated content through GameStop. It’ll be interesting to see how all of this plays out, and while no content has been confirmed, it’s safe to say that GameStop will do what they can to grasp onto some upcoming blockbusters, like a new Call of Duty for instance.
