GameStop is Getting Involved with Early Game Development

GameStop is taking new steps to stay ahead in the video games industry, and their newest plans will undoubtedly produce some very interesting results. GameStop confirmed to VentureBeat that they are now getting involved with early game development to produce deeper exclusive content for players who make their purchases through GameStop. Their goal is to produce not only deeper exclusive content, but to also produce exclusive gameplay that can only be played and accessed through pre-ordering or purchasing video games and associated content through GameStop. It’ll be interesting to see how all of this plays out, and while no content has been confirmed, it’s safe to say that GameStop will do what they can to grasp onto some upcoming blockbusters, like a new Call of Duty for instance.

Disney Infinity: Marvel Super Heroes – A Detailed Look at Over 12 Characters

Disney Infinity: Marvel Super Heroes was officially revealed earlier today in none other than Hollywood, CA. Disney and Marvel put on quite the show, using Avenger icons such as Nick Fury and Agent Coulson (Samuel L. Jackson and Clark Gregg, respectively) to assemble the announcement and welcome Disney Interactive president, Jimmy Pitaro to the stage. Pitaro introduced Disney 2.0’s official title, Disney Infinity: Marvel Super Heroes, then proceeded to let this amazing trailer do most of the introducing. Check it out below, if you have not yet had the privilege.

Disney Infinity: Marvel Super Heroes is going to be big, and an entire overhaul of game mechanics will be updated, Toy Box and all. New heroes, villains, power discs, play sets and never seen before features   are all in store for this super-hyped sequel. I’ve compiled a in-depth look at over 12 characters below.

The first confirmed characters are the six Avengers. So far, the Avengers have been the only physical toys we have seen, though the trailer alone has debuted a whole mess of characters, some more obvious than others.

  • Captain America
  • Iron Man
  • Thor
  • Black Widow
  • Hawkeye
  • The Hulk

Many other characters were hinted at during the trailer, ranging from Rocket and Groot from Guardians Galaxy all the way to Spider Man and MODOK, who first debuted in a Captain America comic book series.

Hinted Characters

  • Spider Man
  • Green Goblin*
  • MODOK (Mental Organism Designed Only for Killing)
  • Loki
  • Rocket Raccoon
  • Groot
  • Nick Fury

*As you may notice, Green Goblin is not the traditional Green Goblin you are used to seeing. After some research, I realized he was Green Goblin from Disney’s Ultimate Spider Man. Here is a reference image to compare! Samuel L. Jackson informed us (via Nick Fury) that we will learn about many more characters during E3 2014 this June, and we will be there to give you the best coverage!

That wraps up everything I know about characters in Disney Infinity: Marvel Super Heroes, but what have you learned? Know about a character I haven’t listed? Leave your discoveries in the comments below, and as always, keep it locked at Dope Since the 90’s!

Curtains Officially Pulled Back on Disney Infinity: Marvel Super Heroes

Disney Infinity 2.0 brings Marvel super heroes and villains to the ever-growing toy-to-life genre this Fall. Characters from the Avengers, like Hulk, Thor, Hawkeye, Iron Man, Black Widow and Captain America, were featured in the announcement video, along with villains, Loki and MODOK. Both Rocket Raccoon and Groot from Marvel’s upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy, also made their hint debut in the announcement. At the very end of the announcement trailer, Spiderman swings across the screen in a flash, so I can only assume he will make a later debut. Check out the awesome trailer below!

Later today, we will break down everything revealed so far, in our detailed look, so be sure to check back soon to get the full details, including what Disney Infinity has in store for E3 this June!

Disney Infinity 2.0: Will We See Spider Man, X-Men or Fantastic 4?

Disney recently teased Disney Infinity 2.0, which will add Marvel’s super heroes to the mix, but which super heroes will make the cut? We’re going to discuss who owns what in the Marvel Universe, and how, if at all, that will affect Disney Infinity 2.0.

I think the biggest question I’ve had about Infinity 2.0 has been, “Will there be a Spider Man character?”. A friend recently pointed out that he may not be in the game because Sony owns Spider Man via Colombia Pictures. I wanted to learn more and see the possibilites so I began researching rights and legalities to the entire Marvel Universe – let’s break it down and see how that will affect Disney Infinity 2.0.

The first and foremost thing I learned is that the Marvel Universe is ultimately split into three factions of rights. First, there is obviously the Comic’s rights, which Marvel still and always will own. Then you have the TV and Animated series rights, which was, in full (with a few loopholes) purchased by Disney. Lastly, there are the Movie rights. The movie rights have been split amongst big time film companies, such as Sony’s Colombia Pictures or 20th Century Fox. Colombia Pictures owns movie rights to Spider Man and Ghost Rider for example, while 20th Century Fox owns Fantastic Four, X-Men and Daredevil, just to name a few. Below is a neat infographic to sum things up.

So the big question still remains, “Will this affect what is included in Disney Infinity 2.0?”. Basically, the answer is no, not really. The two assets that directly affect the addition of Marvel characters into a Disney Toy-to-Life franchise are Marvel Characters, Inc. and Marvel Toy Division. These companies are both completely owned by Disney. This basically means Disney has the exclusive rights to each and every individual character, and the rights to develop, produce and sell toys of each character. As long as Disney doesn’t reference certain movies with these characters, they won’t be crossing any boundaries, to the best of my knowledge.

Which characters will make the cut is still a mystery, but the official press release takes place  April 30th, 2014. I’ve got fingers crossed for Spider Man! We will keep you updated as we hear more, so keep it locked at Dope Since the 90’s!

Special Thanks for igniting the question, Dillon (Xbox Live: OptiNuzPrime)
