Activision debuted the Skylanders Trap Team Dark Edition at the San Diego Comic Con this week, and the exclusive black and silver variant characters bundled with the Dark Edition look absolutely stunning. But the characters aren’t the only thing to look forward to with this year’s Dark Edition – The Ultimate Kaos Trap comes bundled as well. This year, Skylanders is all about trapping and playing as villains, so it’s a real treat to have the opportunity of trapping Kaos with this exclusive trap. There will be a standard Kaos Trap hitting retail in limited quantities, but the Ultimate Kaos Trap is much larger than the standard retail trap.
The Dark Edition comes with dark variants of Food Fight, Snap Shot, Wildfire, the Ultimate Kaos Trap, two additional traps, a redesigned Portal of Power, trading cards, a sticker sheet, and an exclusive expanded poster. Skylanders Trap Team will launch October 5th, 2014 for all major platforms, with the Dark Edition retailing at $99.99, available at most major retailers. When we get closer to launch, we will have an in-depth buyer’s guide for Trap Team so you can find all of the exclusive variants, with the least amount of trouble. So be on the watch for that update! Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy makes its video game debut today with Guardians of the Galaxy: The Universal Weapon. The Universal Weapon is available for $4.99 on iOS, Android and Windows Phone devices, and features six intergalactic worlds with over 60 levels to explore, as well as an Arena mode and Battle mode – Battle mode is the story-driven mode, and contains the bulk of the game. Players start off with none other than Peter Quill, the infamous Star Lord.
The Universal Weapon draws most of its story from the comic book side of Guardians, but ultimately still holds its own “parallel time frame”. Here’s what producer, Aaron Norstad said via Polygon.
“We started the game before we knew anything about the film, other than the release date,” Norstad told Polygon. “We knew from the beginning that although we were going to strategically plan to launch the same time as the film, we knew that we didn’t want to be the game that was the same storyline as the film.”
“We wanted it to be deep gameplay with a lot of characters,” Norstad said. “Certainly the universe is so rich in terms of the characters to draw upon, but we knew the core gameplay had to be about five guardians first and foremost.”
“One of the things we really doubled down with was the variety and the depth of characters in terms of the skills and abilities they have, but then also in terms of the broad variety of characters,” Norstad said.
Guardians of the Galaxy: The Universal Weapon released today for iOS, Android and Windows phone, for $4.99.
According to the Halo Waypoint July-August 2014 Matchmaking Calendar, Big Team Swat is the next featured playlist for Halo 4 Matchmaking, and things are going to get crazy. I assume that vehicles turrets and all will still be included in those big team maps, such as Exile, Ragnarok or Dominion, so I can’t wait to see how these mechanics play out in a no-shield no tracker SWAT playlist. Big Team SWAT runs from July 21-26, so don’t miss out on this very limited time game mode next week!
Here is a quick look at the Halo 4 Matchmaking Calendar, there’s some very cool game modes coming up in the coming weeks, so be sure and try them out! For everything Halo 4, keep it right here at DS90’s!
One year after the events of The Purge, The Purge: Anarchy begins. The movie follows three groups of individuals: a separating couple(Zach Gilford and Kiele Sanchez), a mother and daughter(Carmen Ejogo and Zoe Soul), and a heart-stricken father(Frank Grillo). Grillo is ready to purge and is out for vengeance when he stumbles across the other four characters needing rescue. He has to hold off on his mission to save this group of unfortunate people. They aren’t only trying to survive the civilians purging, but another group is purging as well. The group of five is forced to trust one another on a night when no one can be trusted.
The Purge: Anarchy is the sequel to the harshly criticized original, The Purge. The original had a great premise and unique story, but fell short with the backstory and the ending. The Purge: Anarchy had to step it up so it wouldn’t fall in the same footsteps as it’s previous installment, but it once again just wasn’t enough to set it apart from any other thriller. Some of the characters were amazing, Sergeant (Frank Grillo) and Cali (Zoe Soul) had a great connection throughout the entire movie. On the other hand, every other character seemed like fill ins. Other bodies to be brutally killed without the slightest of care. “Anarchy” did a better job of telling the backstory than the original, but it felt forced through the unknown group opposing the NFFA led by Carmelo (Michael Williams). The ending was rushed, but satisfying for the characters that survived. There were great action sequences throughout, especially with Frank Grillo at the helm. The movie’s tone was felt the entire way, and the moral of the story was accurately portrayed at the end.
This movie was fun to watch and very entertaining, but it felt like it needed more. The characters were predictable and not cared for, except for Sergeant (Frank Grillo). The story fell backseat to the action sequences, even though the last shootout was pretty impressive. A greater budget, but only a slight improvement over the original.

San Diego’s Comic Con 2014 is just around the corner, and many panels have been earning their confirmation over the last couple of weeks. BioWare has announced their Mass Effect 4 Panel, Charting a Course: Developing the Next Mass Effect. BioWare’s panel is going to discuss the making of this next Mass Effect, and hopefully give us plenty of new information on the next installment of this blockbuster franchise.
Other than the original reveal, N7 Day concept art, and the short teaser from EA’s E3 2014 Press Conference, not much has been revealed about Mass Effect 4, but some details have been confirmed. We know that Commander Shepard will not be the star or primary role and that the game is going to share many “core features” of Dragon Age Inquisition. This most likely refers to “under-the-hood” development that won’t reflect the game’s combat, HUD, dialogue, etc. Lastly, the developers have stated that ME4 is going to take place in whole new area of Space, so it would be great to learn more on that.
The panel is going to consist of the community manager, the senior artist, two producers, and the game’s lead animator. SDCC 2014 runs July 24-27, so in just a few more weeks we should a lot more about the next Mass Effect. We will follow up on this article at that time, so enjoy the Con and check back often for everything Mass Effect, right here at DS90’s!
