Should You Get Metro: Redux – A Slight Update or a Next-Gen Overhaul?

4A Games recently announced Metro: Redux with a release date of August 26, 2014. Is Metro Redux going to be nothing more than a slight update, or is 4A going to completely overhaul the world of Metro, making it worth a second go for returning fans? Let’s look at what we know so far.

The screens we’ve seen so far for Metro: Redux are absolutely stunning, and an absolute improvement from not only Metro: Last Light; but the 2010 game that started it all, Metro: 2033, is going to get the most noticeable improvement. Check out the gallery below to see the improvements for yourself!

4A Games is determined to get gamers back into Metro, and the best way to do that, is to listen to the players. 4A acknowledged that the Metro series needed gameplay improvements, listened to the fan requests, and made the necessary changes to drive the Metro series forward. Players can now check their watch to keep up with the time, an emphasized feature in Metro, and players can also check their inventory on the fly, a small but crucial improvement that will ease the frustration of playing on harder difficulties. Metro: Redux will run on 60FPS on both the PS4 and Xbox One, but the PS4 will boast a resolution of 1080p compared to Xbox One’s expected 720p.

Metro Redux seems impressive and improved enough, but nobody wants to pay a new release $59.99 MSRP on a collection of two remastered games, and 4A games was ready to not only approach that, but they have acknowledged and fulfilled that expectation. Metro: Redux contains completely remastered versions of Metro: 2033, Metro: Last Light, and every DLC released between the two games (also remastered) for only $49.99. Only want either Metro: 2033, or Metro: Last Light? 4A’s got you covered because those individual “Redux” copies will be digitally available for only $24.99 each!

The bottom line is that 4A Games has exceeded the standard tradition of remakes and remasters, brought new fan requested features to the franchise, produced eye-popping visuals, and offers the world of Metro in flexible options, all of which are below a traditional MSRP. Should you get Metro Redux? Whether you are a returning fan, an interested onlooker, or a fan of great story-driven games, Metro: Redux will not let you down.
